Jonas Salk Elementary Opens
Jonas Salk Elementary opened for the first time on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. The $24 million school is named after Dr. Jonas Salk, who invented the first successful polio vaccine and later founded the Salk Institute in La Jolla. Construction for the school was held up for environmental issues concerning the endangered San Diego Fairy Shrimp on the Flanders Drive site and how to compensate for the loss.
BRG Consulting has worked with the San Diego Unified School District to prepare an Environmental Impact Report that addressed the school's construction and operation. BRG also prepared the Habitat Conservation Plan for the school's San Diego Fairy Shrimp mititgation sites.
