Jonas Salk Elementary School, Park, and Joint Use Facilities
BRG prepared an EIR for the San Diego Unified School District’s Jonas Salk Elementary School (Proposition “MM”) in the Mira Mesa Community of San Diego. The EIR evaluated impacts from the following:
- Construction and operation of the new (700 student) elementary school
- Construction and operation of a park and joint-use facilities (to be constructed, owned; and maintained by the City of San Diego); and
- Implementation of a Vernal Pool Restoration Plan on the City of San Diego's McAuliffe Park site (vernal pool mitigation site)
BRG currently assists the District with overseeing the mitigation project including attending monthly on-site coordination meetings and managing the monitoring and reporting requirements to ensure that reports and submittals prepared by others comply with USFWS, ACOE and RWQCB permitting requirements. Year 1 monitoring report was accepted by the Agencies and Year 2 has recently been submitted. A successful site visit was conducted last year with USFWS when, due to above average rainfall, pools had ponded long enough to hatch fairy shrimp. Appropriate remedial measures were discussed in the field to ensure that success criteria continue to be met.
